The new food website has an ‘affordable’ price tag and it’s the first time a network has been created to promote affordable food and nutrition.
Key points:The new food site, named ‘DDF’, is available at no cost to consumers in the DDF Network, which is backed by $30 million in funding from a group called the Global Fund for Agricultural Research (GFAR) and the National Institute of Agricultural Research and Technology (NIAT).
The site features recipes and recipes from a range of ‘foods’ that are sourced locally and from independent farmers.
“It’s the only site we know of that’s focused on affordable, local, sustainable and fair food,” the site’s co-founder, Emma Jones, told ABC News.
“There are a number of products on the site that are organic, sustainably produced and delicious.”
The site was launched last year to address the “ghetto” image that many in the food industry have created around the concept of the ‘gourmet’ consumer.
Ms Jones said that she wanted to create a “real” network that was inclusive and that had the “best food in Australia” as its core value.
“I know that it’s not easy to find affordable food, so it’s very important that we have a site where people can access food for their local community,” she said.
“We have an abundance of options and there’s something for everyone.”DDF is based on the concept that consumers need to understand that they need to take responsibility for what they eat, Ms Jones said.
“We’re talking about the people who are sitting on the other side of the table, they’re making the choices that are putting food on the table.”
So what we’re trying to do is make that decision for them,” she added.”
What you’re going to find on DDF is people making that choice for themselves.
“The new site also features recipes from the Food Network pioneer woman Michelle Dando.”
When you have a food industry, you have people that are getting paid to make a living and then you’ve got all these brands coming into your kitchen and then it’s a huge pressure to be a chef and to be part of a certain food culture,” Ms Jones told ABC Radio Melbourne.”
But we have this idea that if we are to have the best food on earth we need to work together and be a part of something.
“Ms Jones says that she had been looking for a way to provide a “platform for people to be able to support each other”.”
It is really exciting to see so many people coming together, to create this platform, which I think has been really important in getting us to where we are today,” she continued.”
That’s really what we want to build is the infrastructure to have a platform where we can really work together.”‘
We are a diverse community’The DDF site features over 3,000 recipes, from the “real food” of South African-based food brands to the more “fusion” offerings from local food producers.”
Our aim is to make it easy for people from different backgrounds to come together and share what they are passionate about,” Ms Dando told ABC radio.”
And I think that’s what DDF will allow people to do.
“If we can do that and make it affordable for people in a more diverse environment then we can also support eachother.”
The more we can create a network, the more we get to know each other and the more connected we get, the better it will be.
“Ms Dando also said that the site was a “first step in getting the food out of the ghetto”.”
I think that food can be the bridge between people in different walks of life,” she told ABC television.”
Food can really bridge the gap between the people of South Africa and the people in other countries.
“Ms Johnson said the site could help provide more “authentic” dining experiences.”
This is a community that loves to cook,” she noted.”DDF will be a place that’s really about authentic cooking, that is not just the food that’s on the menu, but the food people love.”‘
It’s going to be good for business’The site will also serve as a platform for the DF Network to help other food networks like the ‘Degenreza’, “the most popular mobile-first food app in Australia”, and the ‘Boca de Cacao’ to build a network of “federally supported and locally-grown food.”
Ms O’Connor said that there were also opportunities for businesses to create their own “DDF” networks, which could be used to promote their own products and to create “local connections” with people in their community.”
People will have a lot more confidence in their own local food and if you have that, it can be really
