HBO has pulled the plug on its Game of Thrones: The 10 Best Episodes of the HBO series in the wake of the show’s fourth season’s controversial portrayal of sexual assault.
In a statement, HBO said it is canceling “The Winds of Winter,” the fifth season of the hit fantasy drama, and has ordered a new season to be released on January 31.HBO also announced it has reached an agreement to release a second season of Game of Throne, which is the showrunner’s follow-up to season 4.
The announcement comes a week after the HBO executive producer, Peter Morawetz, issued a statement calling the HBO drama “deeply offensive,” and saying he is “deep in mourning” over the decision.
“I am profoundly saddened to learn that the HBO Board of Directors has decided to pull the plug and cancel The Winds of Summer.
I deeply regret this decision and am deeply in mourning,” Morawets statement read.
“I have personally seen the show, heard the story of the people who are in the show and the devastating impact it has had on the lives of countless women.”HBO’s announcement comes days after the network released a statement saying it is “moving quickly” to “restore the HBO experience,” as well as its “most recent season.”
“We have decided to take a deep dive into our relationship with our partners and the production company in an effort to make sure we are working together as best we can to create the best experience for all of our viewers,” HBO president Michael Lombardo said in the statement.
“We are very excited about this opportunity to revisit The Winds and the impact it had on women and girls across the country.”
Game of Throne is the most watched HBO drama in history with more than three million viewers each week.
It aired in the US in 2017 and was picked up by AMC, which ordered the series from The CW.
The first season of Thrones, which premiered in 2009, centered on King Joffrey Baratheon, a wealthy king who is an expert swordsman and hunts down and kills anyone who gets in his way.
He has been depicted as a brutal misogynist who has raped, beaten, and murdered women, and is a racist who is obsessed with power.
The fifth season also featured the return of a character who had a history of sexual harassment in the HBO show.
HBO has since been investigating multiple claims of sexual misconduct against star Lena Headey, who played the character on the show.”HBO is deeply disappointed in the decision by HBO and Peter Moraws production company to end The Winds in January,” HBO said in a statement.
“We believe the best for HBO and the fans of The Winds are now in the hands of HBO and HBO producers.
HBO and producers have promised to make the series as good as possible, and we are committed to delivering a strong and thoughtful show.”
Morawetz said the series has been criticized for its depiction of sexual violence, including rape, abuse, and attempted murder.
He also said that the show had a tendency to take too many liberties with its characters.
“In this season, HBO is making the show about the abuse of power and the culture of violence that surrounds us.
In our show, there’s a lot of sex, and a lot in the way we portray the abuse and the abuse that is happening, and the way it’s perpetuated and the lack of accountability for it,” he said.
