If you are looking for a high-speed internet service, you may be in luck.
A new study has found that you will find a better deal on broadband from a local ISP if you have a few key features in common.
The research, by consultancy provider ConvergEx, found that in areas with the highest demand for high-capacity broadband, local ISPs had the highest rates of network-agnostic broadband.
“We found that the top-tier ISPs (those with more than a thousand megabits per second) had the lowest rates of internet-agnostics,” Convergex analyst Simon Taylor said.
“They were the ones that were the most likely to offer service on a par with the lowest-end broadband providers in the market, so you get the same speeds, and the same quality.”
While the findings are interesting, they are not new, according to the company.
ConvergEX found that only 12.3 per cent of broadband users across the country had access to broadband services with a capacity of at least 100 megabit per second, while just 10.7 per cent had a speed of at or above 300 megabittps.
“It’s not a surprise that there’s more competition, it’s actually a very simple explanation for why,” Convergoex senior technology analyst Adam Kuczmer said.
The results showed that the best place to invest in broadband is in areas that have high demand for faster internet, like in the South-East.
“That’s where you’ll find the most competitive providers.
And you’ll also find the best deals.
So if you are in the region, you should get your money’s worth,” Mr Taylor said
